Consequences of Over Polishing of the Plastic Injection Mold and Molding

Create Time: 20-12-2017

The polishing problem has always been a problem that mold companies cannot solve fundamentally. Injection mold steel requires a good polishing skill to show the essential properties of the material. Premium Rapid & Mold Industrial Co.,Ltd has the high-quality grinding technology recognized by many companies. Increasingly sophisticated technology creates a finishing effect that can cope with various problems and precision parts with complex shapes.

The biggest problem encountered in polishing is "over-polishing", which means that the longer the polishing time, the worse the surface quality of the injection mold. There are two phenomena when over-polishing occurs: "orange peel" and "micro-pits". Over-polishing mostly occurs in mechanical polishing.

Irregular, rough surfaces are called "orange peels", and there are many different reasons for "orange peels". The most common reasons are excessive polishing pressure, long polishing time, and improper polishing methods.

Finding that the surface quality of the injection mold is not good, many people will increase the polishing pressure and prolong the polishing time, and the improper polishing process will often make the surface quality worse.

The formation of "pits" or "sand holes" is due to non-metallic inclusions (impurities) of the steel grade, which are usually hard and brittle oxides. It is pulled out from the surface of the steel during the polishing process, and then form into "pits" or "sand holes". The main influencing factors are as follows:

1. Polishing pressure and polishing time;

2. The purity of steel, especially the content of hard inclusions (impurities);

3. Polishing tools;

4. Grinding materials.
